DULUTH — The sunny Saturday morning marked the opening day of the Duluth Farmers Market’s 2022 season. Despite the cold spring limiting the amount of fresh produce and perennials, vendors had plenty to offer to customers of all ages.
Cindy Hale of Clover Valley Farms said it was great to see everyone again on Saturday. She’s been a vendor at the market for six years, and said she enjoys working with some vendors who’ve been selling at the market for decades, but also loves to see new faces who’ve recently started selling there.

“Opening day is always fabulous, even if the wind off the lake is chilly,” Hale said.
Little Italy Farms is a vendor who’s new this year, and Lisa Ingemansen said many of her customers discussed how excited they were to get their gardens started for the year. She said she loves farmers markets because the quality of the products sold there are second-to-none.

“You just can’t find that in a grocery store,” Ingemansen said.
Peggy Sobczak, who’s been a vendor at the market for 23 years, said usually by the opening day of the market she has more perennials to sell, but they haven’t taken off yet due to the weather so far this year. Hale said the sunshine of the last week has already helped her farm.
